NOTE FROM Mrs. James

Welcome to Royal Montessori Academy! My name is Jeanine James, a working mother with a passion for Montessori Education. Since opening our doors in 2014, we have been steadfast in our vision to create a nurturing and educational environment that resonates with families exploring the Montessori method. Our school is a testament to this enduring vision, providing a trusted and excellent learning space for children.

At Royal Montessori Academy, we are more than just a school; we are a vibrant community where learning is bright, fun, and exciting. Our passionate teachers deliver a structured curriculum that fosters a love of learning. Understanding the importance of a comforting and intuitive environment for children, we've created just that—a place where every parent can feel at ease.

Our approach is deeply rooted in the Montessori philosophy, focusing on learning driven by inner motivation within a responsive environment. We believe in the power of collaboration with parents, ensuring that our program is tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.

Join us as we continue our journey of growth and discovery. I am committed to nurturing and guiding your child's learning, and I eagerly anticipate witnessing their development and achievements at Royal Montessori Academy.

MORE
  • Montessori:
    The method respects individual differences

    vs

    Traditional:
Emphasis is on conforming to the group
  • Montessori:
The learning process is student-centered and emphasizes self-motivation

    vs

    Traditional:
Emphasis is on grades, punishments or rewards as motivating factors
  • Montessori:
Multi-age grouping is practiced so that students may learn “horizontally” from observation of other people’s work, directly or indirectly

    vs

    Traditional:
Students are grouped chronologically to suit teachers’ pre-planned class lessons
  • Montessori:
Students learn at their own pace, free to complete a project or pursue a subject as deeply as they wish, according to personal enthusiasm

    vs

    Traditional:
Subjects are taught in lecture form and students must change classes and attend lessons all at the same time
  • Montessori:
Students learn by practicing their subject matter while in school, under the supervision and assistance of their teacher

    vs

    Traditional:
Students must practice on their own and be graded on work they have done at home without benefit of close monitoring
  • Montessori:
The classroom is used as a library or resource room for studying and completing projects: students are free to move as needed and are active participants in building their own knowledge

    vs

    Traditional:
Students work at desks, passively listening to lecture for directions and instructions. Passive learning is more tiring and the school work day has to be divided into periods with planned interruptions
  • Montessori:
Students avail themselves of concrete materials, scientifically designed to enhance conceptual thinking. The materials are graded by difficulty and adapt to the maturity of individual students. These tools bring about knowledge based on experience

    vs

    Traditional:
Learning takes place primarily through memorization and repetition of abstract concept. Group learning impedes the implementation of multi-sensory and experiential approaches to learning
  • Montessori:
Testing is built into the Montessori method as the third period of the “three-period lesson” and is a teaching technique that is applied routinely on an individual bases. The purpose of all testing here is to allow self-correction, repetition and achieve competence at one’s own pace

    vs

    Traditional:
Scheduled testing does not take into consideration the preparation of each individual student. It assumes that all student learn at the same rate. Tests are not designed as teaching tools, but rather as rewarding or punitive methods. The pass or fail grades simple reflect if a student has conformed or not to class standards

Why Montessori?

Once considered an educational experiment, Montessori is increasingly becoming the blueprint for a new approach to learning—one that’s demonstrating long-term success in both private and public U.S. schools Montessori’s core tenets, that effective learning is self-directed and that education calls for development of the “whole person”, are shaping a generation uniquely prepared for the demands of the 21st century. Montessori education is both a philosophy of child development and a rationale for quality in that development. The special method, named for the Italian physician Maria Montessori, stresses the importance of the development of a healthy self-concept. Education, she believed, is a preparation for life, not merely a search for intellectual skills. The child has one intuitive aim - his/her self development.

Our Mission:

Royal Montessori Academy’s mission is to provide quality education in a safe, diverse, nurturing and creative environment that helps the development of the whole child. The mission ensures that the child is academically motivated, artistically creative, physically attire and emotionally supported.
